Advice areas
-
Benefits
It's important to make sure that you get all that you're entitled to. We advise on benefits and tax credits if you are working or unemployed, sick or disabled, a parent, a young person, an older person or a veteran. We also advise about council tax and housing costs, national insurance, payment of benefits and problems with benefits.
-
Work
We give advice on your rights at work to make sure you stay protected and get the right support. We advise on pay, working hours, and time off, as well as maternity and paternity rights, raising grievances at work, disciplinaries, dismissal, redundancy and resignations. Sometimes we may also identify discrimination.
-
Debt and Money
Dealing with money issues can be hard. Understanding credit or mortgages can help financially or help you to avoid falling into debt. We help you make the right choices, including help to deal with debt problems, avoid losing your home and get your finances back into shape. Our debt advice can help you to manage your money.
-
Consumer
We believe in a better deal for consumers. We want you to know where you can turn to for advice about a purchase, when you are not happy with a service, or where your consumer rights have been infringed. We advise on a range of consumer issues including scams, utilities contracts, holidays and transport.
-
Housing
Housing issues will always arise and therefore you need to know your rights and responsibilities. We can advise you about how to go about renting or buying a home, just finding somewhere to live, how to handle problems with your landlord, and also help to avoid losing your home. We also can advise on repairs and claiming your deposit.
-
Family
We advise on a range of family and relationship issues, such as looking after people and what to do when a relationship ends. Our advice service can give you information about establishing child maintenance agreements, understanding the procedures for divorce, and even explain the process for writing a will.
-
Law and Courts
While we are not a law centre, you can find out more about your rights, as well as what to do if you face discrimination, need legal advice or have to go to court without a lawyer through our service.
We have referral pathways to lawyers at partner organisations and can signpost you to appropriate, local legal advice if you need it. -
Immigration
If you need help with your immigration issues, our service is able to help. We can provide OISC level one advice regarding staying in the UK, including dealing with visas, explaining your entitlement to benefits if you are not a British Citizen, as well as provide details of immigration services and your immigration status.
-
Health
We can advise you about health and social care services, especially those that are available in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. You may be looking to be signposted to local health services, want help making a complaint, or you might want to know the rules relating to health at work or your rights to benefits when ill.
